Nice post… despite its age it still holds a lot of truth. For travelling around the UK your transport costs could well match your hotel costs, so to keep your travel costs my advice would be to go off peak, pick your times and sometimes two singles can actually be cheaper than a return. Book online and investigate times after 10am. Hope this helps.

True, finding the least expensive type of international airfare may be your most cost savings initiative. To my surprise when I was looking up different types of cheap airfares I came across a rather inexpensive airport that sold very inexpensive charter jets, who knew.

i’ve found from my experience that booking late night or overnight trains could cut a lot of costs as well. the tickets tend to be cheaper and for that night in transit you don’t have to worry about accomodation. in many cases i slept better on the trains than i did in some of the hostels. another tip is to make a stop at supermarkets orfind a street market at every town to stock up on fruits, bread cheese etc. you can save so much money making your own breakfast and lunch, then you can actually afford to hit a nice restaurant or two for dinner during your trip

Thats an extremely harsh view of Dublin. Dublin is a fantastic city well worth a visit, sure its expensive buts its a fascinating fun place
