PostHeaderIcon Croatia Beaches – Summer Destinations in Croatia

Some people prefer to spend their holidays touring parks, museums and other attractions. Other tourists prefer a more relaxing vacation – just strolling down a secluded shoreline or lounging in a private beach cove. If you’re one of the latter, you might want to consider a trip to the Croatia beaches, one of the best beaches in the world.

Croatia has a mile-long pristine shoreline, as well as over 1,000 islands on the Adriatic Sea. This means that you’ll have lots of beaches to choose from. Some of the beaches are sandy while others are covered with gravel, pebbles or rocks. You’ll find nudist beaches, too.

One of the tourists’ favorite Croatia beaches is the Brela Beach – which comes as no surprise since it has been named the best beach in Europe. Located along the Makarska coast, Brela Beach offers six kilometres of gravel-like sand and Mediterranean crystal waters, as well as many coves backed by shady pine trees. These coves provide the perfect romantic hideaway for couples spending their honeymoon in Croatia.

Paradise Beach is also considered one of the best Croatia beaches. Located in the village of Lopar, Paradise Beach is only one of the 22 sandy beaches on Rab Island but it is the most well-known. It is particularly popular for its shallow bay, which makes a good swimming area for children and beginners.

The Lubenice Beach is another Croatia beach worth visiting. Hidden on Cres Island, the Lubenice Beach is one of the most romantic Croatia beaches and also a favorite yachting destination.

Is windsurfing one of your favorite beach activities? If you answered yes, you better make it a point to spend a day at Zlatni Rat Beach. Of all the Croatia beaches, Zlatni Rat Beach is the best spot for windsurfing, as well as another of Europe’s best beaches. This is because the appearance of its pebbly cape changes according to the direction of the waves and the wind – a unique occurrence which offers tourists various opportunities to swim or bathe in the sun.

If you consider diving as a more fun activity, though, then you should head out to Trstenik Beach, which has its own diving center. Take a plunge into Croatia’s underwater wildlife on the coast of the Peljesac peninsula or simply enjoy the serene atmosphere while lying on a bed of smooth stones.

There are other tourist destinations you can visit in Croatia, as well, such as the Diocletian Palace and the Plitvice Lakes National Park. Still, expect to spend most of your vacation on one of the Croatia beaches. With their alluring coves and beautiful waters, they’re sure to make you keep coming back for more.

Croatia is one of the up and coming holiday destinations in Europe. For British holiday makers who are outside of the Euro Zone (€), it is now cheaper for them to travel to Croatia than it is to Spain.

That may be a difficult decision to make: Croatia or Spain. I don’t know, maybe Spain at first because it is a place that I have always wanted to visit.

  • Do an article on bulgarian beaches. I’ve been to Croatia and I think the water there may be warmer, but the Black sea has a distinct charm

  • Croatia has some fantastic scenery, I’ve visited Zlatni Rat on Bra? Island and it was one of the best holidays I have ever had. The prices are going up but still aren’t too high for visitors with average incomes.

  • I hadn’t really thought of Crotia a a vacaton destination. It often gets overlooked. It would be good stop in a cross-Europe trip.

This sounds great! I’ve never been to Croatia but the beaches sound lovely. It’s too bad that most people’s image of Croatia is tainted by images of war.

  • I must mention a few other absolutely great beaches in Croatia: Komiza, Promajna, Zivogosce, Moscenicka Draga…

  • I am going to try this destination!!!Yes not joking…

  • Good recommodation you mande, i would add the following, Punta rata in Brela is an excellent beach i love to go there at least a couple of times a year.

On Brac i can also recommend the beach in Supetar, which has nice white sand, beach is 15 minutes walk from where the ferry lands.

The best beaches i although tried till now here in Croatia is the Porat beach on Bisevo and Stinica beach on Vis, totally amazing both of them.

Plitvice is Croatia’s most famous National Park. Its several lakes and waterfalls are ideal for hiking or trekking around. The Dalmatia region is full of untouched nature and thousands of islands for your travel to Croatia.

  • I think a lot of people don’t really know about Croatia. To be honest, I had no idea that it was known for its beaches. When one thinks or beaches, it is natural to first think of Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean. I’m sure there are many great beaches in Europe too.

  • Finally article about Croatia. Croatia is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and I recommend it to visit it.

It would take too long to say all good things about it, just google it.

  • Pula says:

Other beach to recommend is the Sandy beach Bijeca in Medulin, especially in the Istrian area, this is a real unique beach.

Zlatni rat is a bit over rated, according to my personal opinon, i think there is plenty of other nice beaches here which are much more interesting.

    Cheers, Lene

I am so happy I found this article as I have been looking for some information on Croatian beaches for a while. I have been to Spain and Greece many times before and although they are great places for a holiday and have some fantastic beaches, I like to explore new countries and cultures.

My grandparents used to travel to Yugoslavia quite frequently before the war and they said it was much better than Greece or Spain in that there is a lot more variation in the landscapes. You have the beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters as well as rolling hills and some great walking adventures.

I plan to travel there very soon and will hire a car to do some exploring and now, thanks to Isabella, I have a great list of beaches to head for.

  • One thing everybody fails to mention is that practically all Croatian coast is a beach, because you can stop any place and swim. Beaches are named because there are more people in one place.

  • the paradise beach in lopar is wonderful

  • I am at the moment on a 8 month South East Asia Trip but planning already my next trip which is supposed to go into higher and cooler regions. Great to stumple over blogs like this as it gives me more ideas what I wanna do and where to go and what to take care of :-)

First of all Croatia is famous for its wild virgin nature. There are so many National Parks, they are a great pleasure in any season. Plitvice Lakes National Park is the most beautiful natural wonder in Croatia. Its the place of lakes interconnected by series of numerous waterfalls, grottes and caves. Just a one fanstic view.
