Destination Ireland – The Ryder Cup 2006
The actual event will be held at The K Club in County Kildare, located about a 40 minute drive form Dublin. Demand for accommodation is already exceeding supply in many locations within a 50 mile radius of the venue. Prices for accommodation in Dublin and Kildare are at a premium and one wonders could this put people off travelling in the future.
The opening ceremonies will be held on Thursday September 21st and run for the next four days. Ireland already is a mecca for golfers but it is hoped that this event will cement the country as a leading golf destination in the minds of millions. The country boasts almost one third of the links courses worldwide with many courses posing a challenge for beginner and experienced golfer alike.
For those interested in coming to Ireland for the event the advice is to book your accommodation immediately. Be prepared to stay quite a distance from the event as all local accommodation is already well booked up. Buses will operate from many pick up points within Dublin and driving to the event is simply a non-runner as roads located within a 5 mile radius of The K Club in Straffan will be closed. Tickets for the actual event are like gold dust already.
Another option of course is to come to Ireland but stay outside the heavily booked areas and watch the events unfold on television over a few pints of Guinness whilst enjoying a few rounds of golf with your travelling companions. Many people have already opted to do this due to a total lack of accommodation availability in the area. For those lucky enough to have a room and those much coveted tickets all we can say is-enjoy!
