PostHeaderIcon Bed and Breakfast Inn Owners – How Market Research Can Improve Your B&B

If you own or manage a B&B you should consider the following benefits obtainable from market research as part of your business success.

Benefits of Market Research

One of the greatest benefits obtained from undergoing some form of market research is a richer understanding of your target market and competitors. Being able to assess how well aligned your Inn is with your target market and its competitive marketplace can be invaluable. You will begin to get an idea of what others in your industry are doing in terms of marketing and budget in order to attract and retain guests.

Market Research is particularly important for setting up your business marketing plan & objectives, along with making strategic business decisions. The information you find out can help you refine your marketing campaigns. You may find that a certain radio station, bed and breakfast publication or website has returned a profitable return on investment for other Inn owners and therefore decide to devote more of your advertising budget to this source.

Market Research Ideas & Sources

- A good habit to get into is regularly reading free and paid reports about industry trends and patterns. You can also consult other B&B owners; join up to industry forums with other owners from around the world and within your country.

PostHeaderIcon Short Notice Golfing

Wherever you travel in the United States you can likely find a nearby golf course to take advantage of during your stay.  From South Carolina to California there are literally tens of thousands of courses to choose from. There are well over three hundred and fifty in South Carolina alone. Still, with all of these courses to choose from, you cannot always get tee times while you are there.

When you have little notice of travel, or have just not thought ahead of time about what you wanted to do while you are away, you can find yourself wishing that you had a course to play on. Whether you have a week or two, or you are faced with 48 hour tee times your goal is not impossible. You just have to do your research.

There are websites that will give you lists of all of the courses available and some will even let you register for tee times. Look for one that is will not take money out of your pocket. If your course choice is expensive, avoiding extra fees will be a bonus.

Mount Juliet Estate: A little Something for Everybody, From Golf to Fishing to Equestrian

Rarely would a person find a place so peaceful amidst today’s fast paced lifestyle. But this estate has been developed with tranquility in mind and a place where one can unwind and just enjoy life the way it was meant to be. With 15,000 acres of lush greens and landscapes, there is a host of activities that a whole family can truly enjoy, so when one is thinking about a golf vacation trip in Ireland, this is the spot for you, the Mount Juliet Estate.

A property and house that was built in the latter part of the 1770′s, Mount Juliet is a dedication by the Earl of Garrick to his wife when he bought the property. In the early stages of the 1900′s the property were sold to the McCalmont family, from then on, more renovations were done and in 1989 a luxury hotel was opened. By 2002, the place was then a Conrad Hotel.

PostHeaderIcon Christmas Shopping in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland

Enniskillen is popular for shoppers from the surrounding counties and beyond (even Dublin!) and especially at Christmas time when the town centre is buzzing with bargain hunters.

The Erneside Shopping Centre is a popular first port of call. There’s lots of car parking, so no worries here.

Inside there are a number of well known stores including, Harry Corrys, Next, Lifestyle Sports, Barratts Shoes, Exhibit, Adams, H Samuels, Argos, New Look, Monsoon, Claire’s Accessories and Millets.

There’s also Semi Chem, which is a health and beauty retailer. Here you can pick up your favourite perfumes, and all types of lotions and potions at really good prices. This is very popular with shoppers from the southern counties as even when you consider the exchange rate it’s still great value for money.

If you’ve the little ones with you there’s a Santa’s Grotto – you can’t miss it, it’s right in the centre of the shopping centre.

To get to the town centre from here, just cross the pedestrian bridge at the back of the shopping centre – it’s about a 5 minute walk.

PostHeaderIcon Gay Travel Buddy- Vacation Hotspots

New York City, Las Vegas, San Diego and San Francisco are all gay friendly cities that people dream about visiting. You might be enticed by stories of the night life, the food, the sightseeing and more.

New York is known for its hotels, coffee shops, night life, and sights like Times Square and Central Park. The city is broken up into sections which can make you feel like you’re visiting a number of very different cities.  Chelsea is a well known gay area. No matter where you go, make sure to do your research before arriving so that you don’t miss out on anything you want to do.

The Las Vegas Area is best at what it is known for: drinks and lights. They are not many gay friendly hotels to choose from. However, there are plenty of gay bars that make spending twenty four hours a day dancing a possibility. If you look around, you will find plenty of reviews on the variety of places to choose from.

In the San Francisco, Castro Area you will find yourselves in the gay hot spot of the world. Make sure you book ahead as hotels are limited. Look up what is available in the city and keep an eye on parking regulations.  You will enjoy yourself much more if you know what to expect beforehand.

PostHeaderIcon Dingle Bed & Breakfast Accommodation, Ireland

The Dingle Peninsula is located in west Kerry and is a mountainous neck of land jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean. Famous for its diverse beauty and tranquility, Dingle has some of the most breathtaking scenery with its miles and miles of sandy beaches, off shore islands, cliffs, hills, mountains and historical attractions. National Geographic Traveller once described Dingle as “one of the most beautiful places on earth”, so make sure you take the chance to visit and see it for yourself.

There is just so much to do and see in Dingle, you could easily spend an entire week here! You could take a boat ride to the Blasket Islands, visit the beehive huts and Gallarus Oratory (an early Christian church), do the Slea Head drive and enjoy lots of outdoor activities like horse riding, hiking, fishing or watersports.

Dingle town is the focal point of the peninsula and is well worth a visit. It’s renowned for its vibrant nightlife scene with its restaurants, lively traditional pubs and disco bars. Dingle town is also home to Dingle Oceanworld and Fungi the resident bottlenose dolphin!

PostHeaderIcon Share a Holiday Adventure With Your Family

Together with the well-publicised Mt Everest (8,848m) summit bids of climbers in their 60s, a young man called Johnny Strange has helped demonstrate that age is no reason for missing out on the beauty of the world’s more challenging landscapes. In a series of high profile record breaking climbs, he became the youngest person to summit the highest peaks in seven continents. He completed this feat at the age of just seventeen years in June 2009.

Johnny began climbing mountains seriously when he was just twelve, as part of a rather unconventional family adventure holiday with his father. Together they scaled Mount Vinson Massif (4,892 m) in 2004, conquering the highest peak in the Antarctica continent, and leaving Johnny with six more continents to look down upon.

Of course, there are much safer and less ambitious ways to enjoy the mountains on a family holiday. An exciting alternative to a conventional hill walking holiday is to take one of the family treks in exotic destinations such as Bhutan, Peru, and the Indian Himalaya. The holiday that will really catch the eye though, is the one that offers, among other highlights, eleven days trekking in the Everest valley.

PostHeaderIcon Wilderness Travel Tips

Staying for an extended period of time in the wilderness is not a walk in the park. It is certainly not like what we see in the movies. Forests and areas of dense vegetation are no Shangrila or paradise.

I live in South East Asia and I must say that I do not like the forests here. For wilderness travel there are a couple of considerations.

1. Get prepared. Get the necessary training for wilderness travel. Learn how to navigate. Learn the necessary jungle survival skills.

2. Carry along navigation equipments. Navigation is important in the forest. Forests do not often have well defined geographical markers such as roads. Learning how to read maps and using the compass is a must. Having a GPS is good too.

3. Sufficient water supply. You must have access to drinking water supply. A person cannot live beyond a few days without water. To be without water put the wilderness traveller in a very dangerous position. Learn how to acquire water from natural resources.

4. Food. Make sure you have sufficient food.

5. Shelter. This aspect is often overlooked but is also very important. This is especially important if you are spending overnight in the jungle.
