For many years, my husband and I have lived in Lake Chapala Mexico, located 45 min from Guadalajara and 4 hours inland from Puerto Vallarta. One of the most important reasons we chose to move here was our children. We wanted to raise them in a safe environment. If you question our motivation I have facts that back the latter statement. The NationMaster’s Crime per Capita report lists the U.S. as #8 and Mexico way down at #39.

Does knowing that Miami has the highest violent crime rate in the U.S. prevent you and your loved ones from vacationing in Miami? So, if Miami has the highest crime rate in a country ranked 8th overall, why all the concern about Mexico with a crime ranking 31 times less. Put’s matters in perspective doesn’t it.

Here is another fact. As reported by RE/MAX Investment… tourist hot spots in Mexico are twenty six times safer than some zones in the U.S.

This report gets very specific. Here some crime rate comparisons to consider. The crime rates in Las Cabos, Lapaz and Loreto have a homicide rate 26 time less that of Orlando, 18 less that of Miami, 17 less that of West Palm Beach, 12 less that of Tampa and 6 times less that of Honolulu.  Read more...

The 70 kilometers of beaches along the Gold Coast attract more than four million visitors annually. The Gold Coast is a Surfing mecca and is a great destination for a relaxing beach vacation. The most crowded beaches are Main Beach Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. While the best surfing beaches are the southern beaches. Miami and Nobby Beach are both quieter beaches. Nobby beach is a great location for relaxing with the family and Miami Beach offers peaceful beachfront as well as picnic facilities. For some action in this area a walk up the cliff offers breathtaking views up and down the coastline.

Currumbin Beach, Bilinga Beach, and Torun Beach: These beaches are situated at the southern end of the Gold Coast. Plan to stay on Ambergris Caye as long as you possibly can. It still will not be long enough! The tropical breezes and warm, sunny beaches will wash all your cares away. There is so much to do. You can wind surf, para sail, and kayak. Ambergris also offers great scuba diving and snorkeling. Watch the sun rise, eat breakfast, and then explore the shopping in San Pedro. You can also take day trips to the mainland to see the Mayan ruins. Or maybe you’d like zip lining in the jungle.

Pack light. All you need is strong sunblock, mosquito repellent, shorts and tee shirts, extra swimsuits, sandals, walking shoes, and some money for souvenirs and to eat on. You can shop the stores in San Pedro or buy from the vendors on the beach. Handmade bead jewelry, weaving, and woodcarving can be found anywhere on Ambergris Caye.
